Vote Earth!

Earth Hour started as a joint initiative between WWF-Australia, Fairfax Media and Leo Burnett. This worldwide campaign aims to educate the world about the threats of climate change, informing individuals and businesses about the difference they can make by reducing their emissions at home and in the workplace.

The initiative began in Sydney in 2007. Approximately 2.2 million people and 2,100 businesses took part in the first year.  In 2008 Earth Hour was held on Saturday 29 March and involved between 50 and 100 million people in 370 cities and towns around the world, including Chicago, Toronto, Copenhagen, Dublin, Atlanta and Bangkok.

I took part of the event in 2007 in Sydney and it was quite impressive to see the city slowly getting darker. I was surprised by the number of businesses that decided to switch off the lights of their buildings for an hour. Have a look at this video...

By switching off your lights, you are willing to be part of the solution, not the problem, and are willing to make small changes in your day-to-day life that will make a difference. The intent is for the event to be adopted by an increasing number of countries, communities, businesses and governments around the world so they too can help demonstrate that individual action on a mass scale can help change our planet for the better.

Earth Hour 2009 aims to reach 1 billion people in more than 1,000 cities: HELP THEM & SWITCH OFF YOUR LIGHTS!
